2048 Merge World is played on a five-column board stood on end. A single numbered tile waits above the top row, a dashed line marks the height the stack must not pass, and the whole grid stays visible at once, so you can watch every column filling rather than discovering the problem late.
A run is endless and finishes the moment a column grows past that dashed line. The card that appears then reports two separate results: the score you finished on, and the largest tile you managed to build, which it labels Best Merge. Both are kept between visits.
How to play
Slide left or right to carry the waiting tile across the five columns, then let go to drop it. Sliding is what the board reacts to most strongly; a plain tap sends the tile straight down whichever column it already sits above.
Two tiles showing the same number that end up touching after a drop combine into their double, and that can cascade if the new tile then matches its own neighbour. Every combination feeds the counter at the top of the frame.
A bar runs across the top with a small coloured tile at its right end. In one recorded run that tile read 8 at the start and 32 by the time the board filled, moving up as larger values were produced, so it doubles as a readout of how far a run has come.
Tips
- Keep the two outer columns short. A tile can only combine with a direct neighbour, and an edge column has one fewer side to work with, so height there is much harder to undo than height in the middle.
- Drop onto a matching number rather than into whichever column looks emptiest. A combination removes a tile and lowers that column, while an unmatched drop raises it and brings the dashed line one row nearer.
- Build the same value in two neighbouring columns before combining either. A pair sitting side by side gives you a cascade on the next matching drop, where two separated tiles of the same value just occupy space.
