About this game

Moto Race City is a traffic-weaving ride shown from above in a tall frame, with the bike held low on screen and city roads scrolling past. The game states its own aim on an instructions panel: ride as long and as fast as you can without crashing.

Scoring is not just survival. That same panel says overtaking cars closely at high speed earns extra points and cash, and that riding against the flow of traffic earns more again, so the game pays for the risk rather than for distance alone.

How to play

The instructions list the controls in full and they are unusual: 4 or the left navigation key steers left, 6 or the right navigation key steers right, and 8 or the down navigation key brakes. There is no accelerator, so the bike carries its own speed and braking is the only way to shed it.

Because close overtakes are worth more than clean ones, the space you leave beside a car is itself a scoring decision. Braking pulls you out of a gap that is closing, at the cost of the speed the bonus depends on.

Tips

• Ride the lane markings rather than the middle of a lane. Sitting on the line keeps you close to traffic on both sides, which is the position the close-overtake bonus is paying for, and it leaves an escape either way.
• Use the brake as a steering aid, not a panic button. Slowing lets a car ahead pull away and open the gap you were about to lose, whereas swerving into the next lane commits you to whatever is already there.
• Save the opposing lane for straight, empty stretches. Riding against the flow pays the most, but it is also the only place where a car arrives at the sum of both speeds, so take it where you can see furthest.
