Mega Shark

About this game

Mega Shark puts you in a side-on reef as a shark with a number printed above it. Every fish in the water carries a number too, and the whole game turns on how yours compares with theirs.

A countdown runs at the top of the frame rather than a stock of lives, and the provider describes a sixty-second scenario. The browser keeps a roster of shark types, each stored with its own health, top speed and immunity value, bought with the coins and trophies that runs produce.

How to play

Steer by moving the pointer and the shark follows it; a small mouse badge in the corner of the frame is the game's own hint that this is pointed rather than typed. The reef keeps moving whether or not you do anything.

Swim into a fish showing a lower number to eat it and raise your own, which is the figure printed above your shark. Anything carrying a higher number is the hazard rather than the meal, so the number, not the silhouette, is what decides where you can go.

Tips

• Eat upward in small steps instead of hunting the largest thing on screen. Your number is what makes bigger prey reachable, and it only rises by eating, so a quick chain of small fish opens the water faster than one hopeful pass at something too big.
• Work the edges of the frame rather than hovering over the coral. Prey drifts in from the sides, and a minute is short enough that waiting in the middle for something to arrive is most of a run gone.
• When coins allow a second shark, weigh top speed above health. The run is bounded by a countdown rather than by damage, so covering more water is usually worth more than surviving one extra collision.
